News from Ysgol Nefyn – April 2008

The Reception and Nursery Class enjoyed themselves when they went for a walk around Nefyn. They had the opportunity to look at different buildings in the town.
Miss Llinos Jones and Miss Lowri Lloyd Jones led this activity.
Congratulations to the pupils of Year 5 who took part on the `Post Cyntaf` programme on Radio Cymru. The pupils talked about how the school take`s part in recycling and looking after the environment.
Angharad Gwenllian, who works for Cyngor Gwynedd`s Recycling Department visited all the classes to promote the importance of recycling. We all learnt a lot from her visit.
During this month Year 6 pupils visited Ysgol Botwnnog and have experienced Secondary School life. All the pupils returned to school having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They can`t wait to start in Year 7 in September.
Mr Meurig Williams (a member of the Police Force) visited us this month and discussed health and safety, especially when using mobile phones and the internet.
We are very proud that Duffy was a pupil at Ysgol Nefyn. `Uned 5` will present a programme on Duffy in the near future.
The pupils of years 3 and 4 enjoyed the company of Mr John Dilwyn Williams, who works at the Archives in Caernarfon. He came to talk about local history.
Rygbi`r Ddraig Tournament will be held at Bodegroes on Saturday, May 17th at 10 o`clock.
A Bingo evening will be held at The Nanhoron Hotel on Friday, May 2nd, the proceeds will go towards the new Community Centre in Nefyn.

SCHOOL OPEN THURSDAY

Following a telephone conversation with the Education Officer this morning
(21-4-08). THE SCHOOL WILL BE OPEN for the pupils of Year 5 (Mrs Evans` class)next Thursday 24-4-08. As Mrs Evans is attending a course a supply teacher will be present to teach the children.

News from Ysgol Nefyn – March 2008

We would like to thank The Parents` Teachers Association for organising our Saint David`s Day Fair at Y Ganolfan. £585.65 was raised and will go towards the new Community Centre`s funds.

Many thanks to The Pwllheli Lion`s Club for their kind donation of £240.00, which will go towards the cost of Physical Education equipment for the younger pupils of the school.

Once again The Bingo Ladies have been generous, we received a cheque for £100.00 towards the schools activities.

The pupils of Years 1 and 2 went on a trip to Llanberis, where they walked a short distance on the Snowdon path and appreciated some of Kyffin Williams ` work. They then went on to Beddgelert to see Gelert`s grave.

The pupils of years 3,4,5 and 6 took part in a Hockey Tournament at Dwyfor Leisure Centre in Pwllheli.

Congratulations to Gwenno, Ffion, Nia, Beth and Ifan who took part in The Eryri Schools Gymnastics Association competition held at Bangor.
Congratulations to the `Cerdd Dant` party, who came second in the Urdd Eisteddfod at Bangor .

We hope that the work on the `Llwybrau Diogel` (Safe Paths Scheme) will be starting soon and therefore less danger for the children to walk to school.
One path will be between The Holborn Estate and the school.
Another path will be from the town centre, towards Lleiniau and then to the school. There will be a place to keep bikes on the yard as part of this project. There will be a new pedestrian crossing at the school entrance.
We welcome Lowri Jones,a student, who is with us until the end of the school term.

Year 5 and 6 Hockey Tournament

As the tournament was cancelled due to bad weather on Tuesday, 11th March 2008, it will now take place on Tuesday, 18th March 2008.
The children will need a packed lunch and physical education clothes.

Ysgol Nefyn Saint David's Fair

Tuesday, March 4th , 2007 at 6:30pm
CANOLFAN NEFYN

A Saint David`s Fair that has been organised by The Parents Teachers Association will be held on Tuesday 4th March at Y Ganolfan at 6:30p.m.
We would appreciate any contributions towards the stalls (cakes, Tombola, Raffles, and nearly new toys) and they will be gratefully received in the school from Next Monday up to the morning of the Fair.There will be no second hand bookstall this year. Admission fee will be £2.Some of the children will entertain us and Year 6 pupils will arrange different activities.
 If anyone would like to offer their help to the Parents Association on the  day please contact the school.Many thanks and we look forward to see you support the Fair in your usual manner.

News from Ysgol Nefyn, February 2008

We would like to thank Reverend Robert Roberts for coming to discuss 'Baptism and Pilgrimage' with the pupils of Years 3 and 4, in the classroom and at Capel Isa. We would also like to thank Auntie Nia for holding morning services with us during the month.

Congratulations to the members of the 'Parti Cerdd Dant' for their success at the Urdd Eisteddfod at Pwllheli. We would also like to congratulate the 'Parti Unsain' for coming second in their competition. 'Well done' to all the children who tried their best in the different competitions at the Eisteddfod.

We have been busy collecting money towards a new Community Centre at Nefyn. Our Saint David`s day Fair was held at 'Y Ganolfan' on Tuesday March 4th. The pupils of the school and members of Adran yr Urdd Morfa Nefyn entertained and year 6 pupils arranged different activities as well as tombola, raffles and other stalls.


Ysgol Nefyn Parents' and Teachers' Association

A meeting of The Parents and Teachers` Association will be held at the school on Tuesday February 19th at 6:00pm. All are welcome to attend.


£65.70 was raised by pupils and staff for the `Marie Curie Cancer Care` charity by selling daffodils during February 2008.

Results of The Diabetis Appeal

£200 was collected towards The Diabetis Appeal, everybody wore denim and changed their hairstyles for the day. The children had to pay a £1 fine for wearing denim and 50pence for the hairstyles.

Bag2school update

By now `Bag2school` have collected bags of clothes from the school. We look forward to finding out how much money the company will give to the school after weighing the bags.


Disco

A disco will be held at `Y Ganolfan`, Nefyn on March 14th. The money collected will go towards the costs of building a new Community Centre for Nefyn.

Half Term Holidays

Friday February 8th – School closes for the holidays.
Monday February 18th – School re-opens.

Diabetis Appeal

Following a meeting of `Cyngor Disgyblion Ysgol Nefyn` we decided to contribute towards the Diabetis Appeal. Menmbers of the `Cyngor` decided that the children and teachers can wear denim and choose to change their hairstyle and pay a fine of £1 for wearing denim and 50p for the hairstyle this Friday 1-2-08.
Parents are welcome to contribute towards the appeal by sending their contributions in an envelope.

News from Ysgol Nefyn, January 2008

We are all back at school after enjoying the Christmas holidays. Four of our friends have already visited the school this year.

Mr Robert Roberts came to Year 5 to discuss `Jesus healing people`, and Auntie Nia held a service on `Fair Trade`. The pupils of The Infants Department and Years 3 and 4 were given lessons by Claire Evans on how to cross the road safely.

Members of the School Council have been busy with Lis Jones (member of the Police Force) designing boxes The children will choose and create the best box from the designs and it will be used in school so that pupils can send letters to Lis Jones if anything is worrying them.
