Ysgol Nefyn - December 2008

Year 5 pupils raised £126.00 towards a new Community Centre at Nefyn,
they organized a `Coffee Afternoon`. As part of their project they had to create posters and organise activities at Y Ganolfan. Many thanks to parents and families who came to support the children.
It has been a busy month at school. The pupils of Reception and Year 1 had their Christmas party at The Woodlands Hotel, Edern. The pupils of Years 2,3 and 4 had a `Mamma Mia` themed party at y Ganolfan Nefyn, and the pupils of Years 5 and 6 had their Christmas party at The Nanhoron Hotel.
The Business Enterprise week was a great success -Year 6 pupils made Christmas cards, Year 5 pupils made Recipe Books, the pupils of Years 3 and 4 made Calendars, the pupils of Years 2 and 3 made herb bags and the pupils of Nursery, reception and Year 1 made Christmas wrapping paper and gift tags. Everything was sold at the Christmas Fair which was organized
by The Parents` Teachers Association.
The pupils of Year 6 visited Londis and Plas Madryn to sing carols.
Once again donations have been gratefully received towards the school - £250.00 from Mr Knowles (weekly Whist Drives) and £50.00 from the residents of Plas Madryn, Morfa Nefyn.
Anti Nia and Anti Susie have visited the school during the month to hold services.
The pupils of Year 1 have taken part in a `Playing in the Water Scheme` at the swimming pool at Dwyfor Leisure Centre, where the children enjoyed themselves.
We welcome five of our pupils back to school after a term at the Language Centre at Llangybi.
Even though we had many pupils absent due to illness from the Christmas Service which was held at the church,we would like to thank the pupils who took part for doing so well.
We would like to thank Anti Eirian and the kitchen staff for preparing a lovely Christmas dinner for us.
As staff of Ysgol Nefyn we appreciate and would like to thank the parents for their support throughout the year.

Ysgol Nefyn - November 2008

At tne beginning of November we were hoping to win the `Keep Wales Tidy Award`. Flint Secondary School won the competition, Nefyn School came joint second (with another Secondary School). We had a good day in Cardiff, and returned to school with a framed certificate .
Once again the classes have been busy working in the community. The School Council members went with Anti Lis (Police member) to entertain Nefyn Pensioners` Club at Y Ganolfan.

The pupils of Years 5 and 6 took part in the Sunday Rememberance Service at the Church. The pupils of Years 3,4,5, and 6 placed poppies at the War Memorial an Novemebr 11th.
The pupils of years 3,4,5 and 6 enjoyed themselves with children from other schools in the catchment area during the Rugby Tournament Days.
£502 was raised towards `Children in Need`. Many parents attended the `Coffee Afternoon` which was organised by the pupils of Year 6.
This year the pupils donated 60 boxes towards the `Operation Christmas Child Appeal`.
Many thanks to the `Bingo Girls` for their kind donation of £200 towards the children`s Christmas party.
Anti Susie and Anti Nia have been holding sevices in the school during the month. We are looking forward to visiting the church and chapel before the end of the month, Anti Susie and the Reverend Robert Roberts will hold services for us.
We are very grateful to Anti Christine, who works in Asda, pwllhlei for the kind donations of clothes for the Christmas Service and crackers for the pupils Christmas dinner.

Genethod Blwyddyn 6 - trefnwyr Ffair Plant Mewn Angen i`r disgyblion a`r rhieni gyda siec am £502.36 a gasglwyd at yr achos.

Dyma ddisgyblion Blynyddoedd 3 a 4 fu`n llwyddiannus yn Nhwrnament Rygbi`r Dalgylch yng Nghlwb Rygbi Bodegroes ar ddydd Mawrth Tachwedd 4ydd.

Ysgol Nefyn - October 2008

The youngest pupils of the school had a busy day when they were filmed for the `Cyw` programme which was broadcasted on S4C during the half term holidays.
The pupils of Years 2,3 and 4 visited Plas Glyn y Weddw as part of their Art Studies and also Cefnamwlch Farm as part of their Humanities Studies.
A Coffee Afternoon was held by the pupils of Years 2,3 and 4, and their parents and families were invited. The £102 which was raised went towards the costs of Training Farmers in poor countries to buy equipment (Christian Aid).
Anti Susie and Parch Robert Roberts held services for us during the month.
Mr Meurig Williams (Police member) came to school – wuth the pupils of Years 5 and 6 he discussed how to behave in the Community, with the pupils of Year 4 he discussed how to behave on Halloween, and with the pupils of Year 2 he discussed the dangers of drugs.

Year 5 pupils visited Capel Isa with Parch Robert Roberts, where they discussed and compared the Chapel and the Church.
The members of the School Council have been busy practising with Anti Lis (Police member) towards a concert they will hold for the elderly of the town during November.
Many thanks to all parents who attended the Cheese and Wine Evening which was organised by the Parents and Teachers` Association. `Anti Gill Post` was selling handbags and accessories, and a representative from the `Body Shop` company was also present.
Congratulations to the children for being chosen to attend a `Keep Wales Tidy` awards ceremony which will be held in Cardiff on November 17th.

Ysgol Nefyn - September 2008

Welcome back to everyone after the Summer holidays. 12 pupils have started in the Reception Class and 4 Year 4 pupils have joined us from Ysgol Morfa Nefyn.

We have taken advantage of the dry and sunny weather since returning to school by working outside the classroom. The pupils of Years 2,3,4,5 and 6 went for a walk along the beach and past Pwll William, on the way we noticed the signs of Summer changing to Autumn, and we also saw pollution on the cliffs.

Year 2,3, and 4 pupils visited Nefyn `Public Allotments`, returning to school with fresh local vegetables to cook. They also visited `Londis` and bought milk and cheese – this activity was organised to raise the children`s awareness of `British Food Week`.

We are grateful to Year 5 pupils for participating in buying and selling in the `Ganolfan`s Good as New Shop` during the first week of September.
All proceeds go towards building a new Community Centre for the town.

Year 5 pupils also walked to Porthdinllaen, they visited Mr Parry at the `Lifeboat Station`. The pupils intend to visit again during the year.

We all look forward to Anti Nia`s services, this month Anti Susie has also joined us.

The pupils of Reception, Years 1 and 2 have been to Neuadd Dwyfor to see `Llyfr Bach y Plant` show.

Alaw Jones came to the school to discuss how to look after our pets, the slide show was very interesting.

On Monday mornings Anti Cheryl from `The Kerbcraft Project` and Year 1 pupils go out of the school to practise how to cross the road safely.

We are very grateful to `Bysus Nefyn` for their generosity in buying a new football kit for the pupils. We would also like to thank Anti Buddug and Yncl Joe, who presented a cup for the school`s annual sports day. `Boduan` were the winning team this year.

Mr Knowles presented £300 to the school at tne end of the Summer term
(proceeds from the Whist Drive evenings). Many thanks for the kind donation.
We would also like to thank the `Bingo Ladies` for their kind donation of £100, which will go towards buying a new cooker.

The `Parents Teachers` Association` are organising a `Cheese and Wine` - Body Shop and Gill`s Jewellery Evening in the school hall on Thursday October 23rd 2008.

A warm welcome to all new parents who wish to join the association.
Congratulations to all the pupils on winning `The Green Flag` for the school as part of the Eco –Schools Project

News from Ysgol Nefyn – April 2008

The Reception and Nursery Class enjoyed themselves when they went for a walk around Nefyn. They had the opportunity to look at different buildings in the town.
Miss Llinos Jones and Miss Lowri Lloyd Jones led this activity.
Congratulations to the pupils of Year 5 who took part on the `Post Cyntaf` programme on Radio Cymru. The pupils talked about how the school take`s part in recycling and looking after the environment.
Angharad Gwenllian, who works for Cyngor Gwynedd`s Recycling Department visited all the classes to promote the importance of recycling. We all learnt a lot from her visit.

During this month Year 6 pupils visited Ysgol Botwnnog and have experienced Secondary School life. All the pupils returned to school having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They can`t wait to start in Year 7 in September.
Mr Meurig Williams (a member of the Police Force) visited us this month and discussed health and safety, especially when using mobile phones and the internet.
We are very proud that Duffy was a pupil at Ysgol Nefyn. `Uned 5` will present a programme on Duffy in the near future.
The pupils of years 3 and 4 enjoyed the company of Mr John Dilwyn Williams, who works at the Archives in Caernarfon. He came to talk about local history.
Rygbi`r Ddraig Tournament will be held at Bodegroes on Saturday, May 17th at 10 o`clock.
A Bingo evening will be held at The Nanhoron Hotel on Friday, May 2nd, the proceeds will go towards the new Community Centre in Nefyn.

SCHOOL OPEN THURSDAY

Following a telephone conversation with the Education Officer this morning
(21-4-08). THE SCHOOL WILL BE OPEN for the pupils of Year 5 (Mrs Evans` class)next Thursday 24-4-08. As Mrs Evans is attending a course a supply teacher will be present to teach the children.

 

News from Ysgol Nefyn – March 2008

We would like to thank The Parents` Teachers Association for organising our Saint David`s Day Fair at Y Ganolfan. £585.65 was raised and will go towards the new Community Centre`s funds.

Many thanks to The Pwllheli Lion`s Club for their kind donation of £240.00, which will go towards the cost of Physical Education equipment for the younger pupils of the school.

Once again The Bingo Ladies have been generous, we received a cheque for £100.00 towards the schools activities.

The pupils of Years 1 and 2 went on a trip to Llanberis, where they walked a short distance on the Snowdon path and appreciated some of Kyffin Williams ` work. They then went on to Beddgelert to see Gelert`s grave.

The pupils of years 3,4,5 and 6 took part in a Hockey Tournament at Dwyfor Leisure Centre in Pwllheli.

Congratulations to Gwenno, Ffion, Nia, Beth and Ifan who took part in The Eryri Schools Gymnastics Association competition held at Bangor.
Congratulations to the `Cerdd Dant` party, who came second in the Urdd Eisteddfod at Bangor .

We hope that the work on the `Llwybrau Diogel` (Safe Paths Scheme) will be starting soon and therefore less danger for the children to walk to school.
One path will be between The Holborn Estate and the school.
Another path will be from the town centre, towards Lleiniau and then to the school. There will be a place to keep bikes on the yard as part of this project. There will be a new pedestrian crossing at the school entrance.
We welcome Lowri Jones,a student, who is with us until the end of the school term.

Year 5 and 6 Hockey Tournament

As the tournament was cancelled due to bad weather on Tuesday, 11th March 2008, it will now take place on Tuesday, 18th March 2008.
The children will need a packed lunch and physical education clothes.

Ysgol Nefyn Saint David's Fair

Tuesday, March 4th , 2007 at 6:30pm
CANOLFAN NEFYN

A Saint David`s Fair that has been organised by The Parents Teachers Association will be held on Tuesday 4th March at Y Ganolfan at 6:30p.m.
We would appreciate any contributions towards the stalls (cakes, Tombola, Raffles, and nearly new toys) and they will be gratefully received in the school from Next Monday up to the morning of the Fair.There will be no second hand bookstall this year. Admission fee will be £2.Some of the children will entertain us and Year 6 pupils will arrange different activities.
 If anyone would like to offer their help to the Parents Association on the  day please contact the school.Many thanks and we look forward to see you support the Fair in your usual manner.

News from Ysgol Nefyn, February 2008

We would like to thank Reverend Robert Roberts for coming to discuss 'Baptism and Pilgrimage' with the pupils of Years 3 and 4, in the classroom and at Capel Isa. We would also like to thank Auntie Nia for holding morning services with us during the month.

Congratulations to the members of the 'Parti Cerdd Dant' for their success at the Urdd Eisteddfod at Pwllheli. We would also like to congratulate the 'Parti Unsain' for coming second in their competition. 'Well done' to all the children who tried their best in the different competitions at the Eisteddfod.

We have been busy collecting money towards a new Community Centre at Nefyn. Our Saint David`s day Fair was held at 'Y Ganolfan' on Tuesday March 4th. The pupils of the school and members of Adran yr Urdd Morfa Nefyn entertained and year 6 pupils arranged different activities as well as tombola, raffles and other stalls.


Ysgol Nefyn Parents' and Teachers' Association

A meeting of The Parents and Teachers` Association will be held at the school on Tuesday February 19th at 6:00pm. All are welcome to attend.


£65.70 was raised by pupils and staff for the `Marie Curie Cancer Care` charity by selling daffodils during February 2008.

Results of The Diabetis Appeal

£200 was collected towards The Diabetis Appeal, everybody wore denim and changed their hairstyles for the day. The children had to pay a £1 fine for wearing denim and 50pence for the hairstyles.

Bag2school update

By now `Bag2school` have collected bags of clothes from the school. We look forward to finding out how much money the company will give to the school after weighing the bags.


Disco

A disco will be held at `Y Ganolfan`, Nefyn on March 14th. The money collected will go towards the costs of building a new Community Centre for Nefyn.

The Bag2school company will make a collection on Wednesday February 6th at 10:00a.m. We kindly ask you to read the enclosed leaflet and we appreciate your support.


Half Term Holidays

Friday February 8th – School closes for the holidays.
Monday February 18th – School re-opens.

Diabetis Appeal

Following a meeting of `Cyngor Disgyblion Ysgol Nefyn` we decided to contribute towards the Diabetis Appeal. Menmbers of the `Cyngor` decided that the children and teachers can wear denim and choose to change their hairstyle and pay a fine of £1 for wearing denim and 50p for the hairstyle this Friday 1-2-08.
Parents are welcome to contribute towards the appeal by sending their contributions in an envelope.

News from Ysgol Nefyn, January 2008

We are all back at school after enjoying the Christmas holidays. Four of our friends have already visited the school this year.

Mr Robert Roberts came to Year 5 to discuss `Jesus healing people`, and Auntie Nia held a service on `Fair Trade`. The pupils of The Infants Department and Years 3 and 4 were given lessons by Claire Evans on how to cross the road safely.

Members of the School Council have been busy with Lis Jones (member of the Police Force) designing boxes The children will choose and create the best box from the designs and it will be used in school so that pupils can send letters to Lis Jones if anything is worrying them.
