Swine Flu

A pupil at Ysgol Nefyn has been diagnosed with swine flu.We have been directed by the
Head of School Services and by the doctor that there is no need to close the school.
If your child is suffering with flu symptoms do not bring them to school until they have
recovered and they should not mix with others outside the home. This is to avoid spreading
the infection as much as possible.
If you think you child has swine flu you can check the symptoms by phoning Swine Flu
Information Line on 08001513513 or by visiting www.nhsdirect.wales.nhs.uk Your child
should then visit the doctor`s surgery.

Ysgol Nefyn ~ March 2009

Everyone is feeling very happy at Ysgol Nefyn by now, as the Inspection is over. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents for their constant support towards the school. Our friends have been working hard with us as usual- Auntie Nia has been busy giving us assemblies, Auntie Lis and Auntie Llinos have been working in the community in Nefyn with the children, and the children also received an assembly from Reverend Robert Roberts in Capel Isa.

Luned Parri, the artist, has been working hard with the children creating Art work in different classes. Nursery, Reception and Year 1 pupils created a spider (Pori’r Pry Copyn). The pupils of Years 3 and 4 were busy making characters, whilst Year 6 pupils were creating a collage on the theme of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. We are looking forward for Luned to return to work with the pupils of Years 2,3 and 5. Elin Huws was also here to work on weaving with the pupils of Years 2 and 3, and Bethan Williams worked on pottery with the pupils of Year 6.

Nursery, Reception and Year 1 pupils travelled to Neuadd Dwyfor in Pwllheli to watch the ‘Cyw’ show, everyone enjoyed themselves. As a school that looks after our community, we were very grateful to have Gwenllian visiting all the classes to talk about the importance of recycling. Members of Glynllifon Collage also came to plant trees on our school field.

As the Spring has arrived we will have to return to working on our garden and tidying up after the Winter! Anna Williams came to give the younger children a few tips on how to look after our garden. As one of the Spring activities, the children have enjoyed mixing with children from other schools at a Hockey Tournament in Pwllheli’s Leisure Centre.

It’s nice to see the bikes out again because of the nice weather and our new bike shed being used. We are now looking forward for our annual trips later on in the school term. The £90 received from the bingo club will be a great help towards the costs.

As Ysgol Nefyn is celebrating 150 years old, along with the Parents Committee we will be planning a week of different activities to celebrate the special occasion. We hope to do this before the end of the Summer term. If any of the readers have any old pictures etc of Ysgol Nefyn we would be very grateful if we could borrow them. We would be sure to look after them and to return them safely.

Ysgol Nefyn - February 2009

We have had another busy month at Ysgol Nefyn. Anti Llinos and Anti Carys enjoyed their morning, when they visited the school to watch a performance of `Martha Drafferthus` by cwmni Frân Wen. The show was for the younger chidren and pupils from Ysgol Morfa Nefyn came to socialise and watch the performance with us.
We would like to thank Anti Nia and the Reverend Robert Roberts for the services they hold in the school. Guitar lessons have now started and the children look forward to these weekly lessons.
Two members of The Nefyn Pensioners` Club celebrated a very special birthday. Some of the pupils went to Y Ganolfan to sing as a surprise for the ladies.
Congratulations to the children who took part in the Urdd Eisteddfod at Botwnnog. We wish Elin, Rebecca and Ffion all the best when they compete at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Bangor.
All the pupils participated in planting trees on the school field with staff and students from Glynllifon College.
Yncl Elfed (a member of the School Governors) was amazed at how education has changed since he was in school. During his visit he talked with the pupils and observed different activities.
Members of the School Council visited Plas Hafan with Anti Lis ( a Police member) to discuss the School Council`s work. Residents of Plas Hafan enjoyed themselves talking about Ysgol Nefyn in the past.
The pupils of Year 6 had a very interesting morning when Twm Elias visited to talk about Drovers and Highwaymen.
Many thanks to the `Bingo Girls` for their kind donation of £100 towards the school.

Ysgol Nefyn - January 2009

Here we are back at school and a month has passed since the Christmas holidays, and it is hard to believe that the Half Term holidays will begin on February 16th.
Anti Nia and Susie have visited the school to hold services during the month.
The Bingo and Whist Drives have re-started after the holidays.
At present the school offers harp and brass instrument lessons for the pupils. During this term guitar lessons will also be offered.
The pupils had a busy and interesting day when members of `Cyngor Cefn Gwlad` visited the school.
The pupils of the Junior Department were entertained and thoroughly enjoyed themselves when `Sioe Hei Hogia Bach` visited the school (part of the `Read a Million Words Project`)
The pupils were eager to buy the books due to the effective acting by the actors in the show.
Of course it is possible to borrow the books from the Library.
When Christine Jones from `Clywed` visited the school the pupils of Years 5 and 6 praised the value of the local Library in Nefyn.
We would like to thank the members of the Governors for being so willing to visit the school – observing the pupils in the classrooms, and round the building looking for Health and Safety issues.
Many thanks to all our friends, parents and grandmothers who work with the pupils in the classrooms every week.
The pupils of Years 2,3 and 4 travelled back in time when they visited The Lloyd George Museum in Llanystumdwy. Even though everyone enjoyed the visit, no one wanted to stay in ” the school in the past”. Many thanks to Anti Nia and Yncl Dilwyn fod bringing the past to life for the children.
The pupils of Years 5 and 6 enjoy knitting with Anti Ella, and the pupils of Years 3 and 4 have fun in the Maths Club with Miss Thompson (After School Clubs). We hope a Cookery Club will be starting soon.
